COMATCH connects independent consultants and industry experts with companies of any size and sector: the pool of more than 5000 handpicked consultants grows every day and helps start-ups, small and medium-sized businesses, consulting firms and enterprises to approach and master challenges.
COMATCH was founded in October 2014 by Jan Schächtele and Christoph Hardt, who previously left McKinsey. It's an almost classic story: Christoph Hardt wanted to temporarily work as a freelance consultant, did not find a good brokerage partner for consulting projects and founded one himself. The consultants can through feedback and self-marketing. Self-determination and flexibility are becoming increasingly important in the world of work - COMATCH has translated this need into the digital world at the right time. The consultants keep telling us that they want to choose who, when, and where they work: 91% of the network's network of consultants are happy about taking the step into freelance work. The business model also responds to lack of transparency in this market - there are an estimated 15,000 free consultants in Germany, but the term "business consultant" is not protected and anyone may use the job title.
Initially many voices in the environment were critical: Free consultants are best hired through personal recommendations, advice is a people business that you should not digitize. But since the beginning of 2015, COMATCH has successfully established itself in the DACH region, the Nordics, Benelux, France and the Middle East and is currently expanding into the UK. The network consists of approximately 5000 consultants and experts and more than 1000 consulting projects have already been carried out. Our customers include companies of all sizes, as well as consultancies, start-ups and SMEs. Between 2015 and 2017, COMATCH recorded approximately 850% revenue growth, while the number of employees rose from 2 to 90.
Our founders Christoph and Jan have always focused on clear processes, structured presentations, a lived feedback culture and regular value discussions throughout the entire team. Both are very well-balanced and good motivators and role models that you want as leaders. Especially great is that Jan and Christoph, despite the many work and also the increasing number of appointments and responsibilities, are still part of the team and are approachable: They sit just like all other employees in the same office, are approachable for anyone, whether intern or work student and have set themselves the goal not only to run a successful company, but to really build a corporate culture.
COMATCHs most important resource is the staff. That is why we value each individual and promote open communication at eye level and strong cohesion among each other. We have developed a mentoring program in which experienced and new colleagues exchange views. There are regular in-house trainings, for example Excel or PowerPoint, workshops on various topics such as health in the office or data protection. Each employee has an annual budget for external training. Through the feedback sessions, which take place quarterly, we know how the employees feel and can react well. Several times we have found new positions for employees within the company, and also created new ones, if they fit the interests of both sides. A colleague worked in Sales, but was much more interested in Business Intelligence and is now building this department. Of course, all of this is not without a lot of fun during working hours; our Head of SWAG, who's duty it is to break the daily work routine, organized a surprise office party in the middle of the day - including red carpet, DJ, fog machine, Polaroid and schnapps, for half an hour, disguised as a meeting. We support sports activities with benefits at Urban Sports and participation in B2Run Berlin - in 2017, COMATCH became the 12th fastest company in Berlin. At Christmas there is COMATCH gives Back: donations of employees for a good cause - which is different every year - are doubled by the company. A sign of satisfaction among employees is a very low turnover rate: with many different functions within the company, we have the right positions for almost all needs and qualifications.
